Welcome to Scramble Point Tokyo! We are a music circle based in Tokyo, open to anyone who is passionate about playing music.
Whether you are looking to pick up your instrument again, or you are simply seeking a new musical home outside of your daily routine, we would love to have you! Why not make some new friends through the power of music? After our sessions, we usually head out for a meal together, which is a great way to relax and get to know each other better.
We welcome players of all backgrounds—from complete beginners and former band or wind ensemble members to those coming back after a long break! To cater to a wide range of musical interests, we offer three types of sessions:

WHAT IS A SESSION?
A "session" simply means a gathering where musicians come together to play music. We offer three main types of sessions, each with its own unique style:
JAM SESSIONS
(For all levels, including beginners)
These sessions focus on "standard" songs often played at music bars. The primary genre is Funk. You will play the main melody of a standard song and then improvise (ad-lib) over the chord progression. Vocalists are welcome if you are comfortable singing in English.
J-POP COVER SESSIONS
(For absolute beginners)
These sessions focus on modern J-Pop. You are free to play the song exactly as it is in the original recording, or you can arrange it to suit your skill level. You are also welcome to join with instruments not featured in the original song, as long as you coordinate with the other members to avoid overlap.
COPY SESSIONS
(For beginners and up)
This is essentially a "copy band" style session where we focus on specific J-Pop artists (and occasionally Disney songs). The goal is to follow the arrangement, song length, key, and signature breaks of the original track as closely as possible. Feel free to simplify the phrases if needed, as long as you match the structure and key of the original.
DEMOGRAPHY
Our community currently has a gender balance of about 6:4 (men to women). In terms of age, our members are mainly in their 20s (50%) and 30s (40%), with the remaining 10% in their early 40s. While we have many experienced musicians, we also have many members with 2–3 years of experience.
Whether you are a working professional or a student, a complete beginner or an experienced player from a wind ensemble background, we would love to have you! We are also a great place for those who played in bands as a hobby in the past and are looking to get back into music after a long break.

HOW TO JAM
In our jam sessions, we play in a band format. We listen to each other to create a cohesive sound while improvising together. Here is how a typical song flows:
1 Song Selection: On the day of the event, we ask for requests from participants and choose a song from our "Standard Jam Session List" on our website. The chords will be displayed on the screen for everyone to see.
2 The Theme: We start by playing the main melody (the "theme") once. If a vocalist is participating, they will sing the melody.
3 The Solos: After the theme, we go around for solo improvisations. If you’re not comfortable taking a solo, it is perfectly fine to pass. During the solo rotation, one person will be designated to play the backing tracks (rhythm section).
4 The Wrap-Up: Once everyone who wants to solo has had a turn, we play the theme one more time to conclude the song. Usually, the drummer will lead the signal to end the song.
5 Rotation: After each song, we rotate participants so that everyone gets a chance to play.
TIPS
Balance Your Volume: When someone else is taking a solo, please lower your backing volume so they can be heard clearly.
Listen and Connect: The most important part of a jam session is listening to the other instruments. Always stay aware of the overall sound and try to play in harmony with the band.
HOW TO COVER & COPY
For these sessions, we focus on playing together as a complete band. Please follow these steps to prepare:
Advance Entry: Please sign up for the songs you wish to play on our "Song Entry Table" in advance.
Practice Beforehand: Each participant is expected to learn their parts before the session day.
Performance: On the day of the event, we form bands (including vocals, keyboard, guitar, bass, drums, and wind instruments, etc.) to perform the assigned songs.
Sheet Music: You are more than welcome to bring your sheet music or lyric cards and use them during the performance.
Note: For drummers, we recommend playing without sheet music to help maintain a steady, natural rhythm.
Rotation: Once a song is finished, we rotate members for the next track.

These songs are selected for our Jam Sessions. Please understand that you do not need to memorize every single song on the list, as we will only perform the tracks that the participants are comfortable playing on the day of the event.
Even if you are not confident in improvisation or taking solos, you can still fully enjoy the session by learning and playing the theme melody.
Please note that the reference videos provided are examples of professional-level performances. You do not need to achieve that level of perfection; reaching about 1% of that standard is perfectly acceptable for our session. Just come and have fun playing with others.
Regarding vocals, wind instrument players are more than welcome to perform the vocal melody lines. Please be aware that for these specific tracks, we are currently only accepting female vocalists due to the high key of the songs.

No Need to Memorize Everything: You don't have to learn the entire setlist. Feel free to join in and perform only the songs you are comfortable with. Beginners are more than welcome to join!

How to Participate
1 Contact Us: Reach out to us via our LINE Official Account.
2 Sign Up: Enter the songs you’d like to play in our shared spreadsheet.
3 Song Assignment: We will assign your parts for 4–5 songs.
4 Confirmation: You will receive your final assignment list 10–14 days before the event.
5 Preparation: Please practice your assigned parts on your own before the session.
6 Jam Day: We’ll perform together as a band on the day of the event!

Who is the organizer?
I oversee creative production for a global entertainment company. I am a drummer, fluent in English, and a huge fan of "Zutomayo." Outside of work, I love spending time with my Pomeranian. I strive to create a welcoming, high-quality environment where everyone can feel the joy of music.
What does "Scramble Point" mean?
"Scramble" comes from "scrambled eggs," meaning to mix things up, and "Point" means a location. It represents a place where musicians with diverse backgrounds and experiences come together to create something new.
What is a "session"?
A session is a gathering where musicians come together to play music spontaneously, without being tied to formal preparation, pre-set arrangements, or sheet music. Unlike formal jazz sessions or live bars, we don't require improvisation. You are welcome to join just for backing or root-note playing. We highly encourage those from wind ensemble backgrounds or those looking to enter the world of free sessions to join us.
What does the name "Scramble Point" mean?
"Scramble" comes from "scrambled eggs," meaning to mix things up, and "Point" means a location. It represents a place where musicians with diverse backgrounds and experiences come together.
What instruments can join?
In addition to the basics—guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard/piano—we often have sax, trombone, and flute players from wind ensemble backgrounds. We also welcome instruments like accordions, violins, and others that don't often get to play in bands.
Can percussionists join?
Yes, you are welcome to join with bongos, congas, or shakers. Bongos and congas can be rented from the studio for an additional fee. Please note that for balance reasons, we do not accept cajons or tambourines. For other instruments, please consult with us in advance.
How many people usually participate?
Typically between 10 and 20 people, with an average of 14. Copy sessions tend to have more participants than jam sessions. We have never had fewer than 10 participants, so if you are nervous about small groups, you can rest assured.
Can I observe the session?
Observation is possible if you are considering joining. However, space is limited as we prioritize performers. Please contact us to discuss your preferred date.
Is there a reference video of the session?
To protect the privacy of our participants, we do not film or publish session videos. You can join as long as you can play your part to a minimum standard, so please don't worry about the skill level of other participants.
Can I rent instruments?
Amps, cables, microphones, and drums are provided on-site. We also cover the rental fee for pianos. Guitars and basses can be rented from the studio for an additional fee. Please bring your own drum sticks, as we do not provide them for hygiene reasons.
Will photos or videos be posted on social media?
We take photos periodically to maintain transparency and trust. While we blur faces, please note that we do not blur bodies. Participants may also photograph each other, but for privacy, sharing these on social media is strictly prohibited.
Can I participate in other groups as well?
Of course! We encourage you to gain experience at other circles or session bars like Shimokitazawa RPM. However, using our connections to solicit members for other groups or misappropriating our setlists/assignment tables is considered poor etiquette and is prohibited.
Are there age limits?
We support networking for those new to Tokyo or their careers. While we prioritize those eager to learn, experienced musicians are also very welcome. If you don't fit these criteria but there is space available, please feel free to reach out.
Why is it not a split-cost (warikan)?
We charge a flat fee of ¥2,000 (¥2,500 for 3-hour specials; ¥1,000 for students from their second session) to cover studio costs, website maintenance, additional equipment rentals, and staff support. Any surplus is used to cover sessions with fewer participants.
I’m a beginner/haven’t played in a long time—is that okay?
Yes! Experienced members will handle the main melody. If you can understand the chords, you can join by playing backing or simple phrases. Soloing is not mandatory.
(Note: Participants must have basic proficiency. Drum beginners must be able to keep a steady rhythm.)
Will I be a nuisance if I can't play well?
Not at all! Everyone is focused on enjoying their own session, and no one will mind the quality of your performance.
Can vocalists participate?
You are welcome to sing any song from our list. Please perform in the original key, as we cannot change keys like in karaoke. Please check the song lists for jam and copy sessions, as they differ. For copy sessions, please sign up specifically for the male or female vocal part.
Can I participate alone?
Most participants come alone, so you’ll be fine! We are a fresh community with no "clique-y" atmosphere.
Can I arrive late?
Arriving up to 30 minutes late is fine. For your first time, please arrive 5 minutes early for an explanation of how the session works.
Can I bring my own instrument?
Please bring your string or wind instruments. For drums, please do not bring your own pedals or snare to avoid setup delays; please only bring your sticks.
Can I cancel at the last minute?
Since we coordinate participant numbers for each instrument, last-minute cancellations prevent others from joining. Please only sign up when you are sure you can attend.
What if I am approached for networking or business solicitation?
We strictly prohibit any form of solicitation. These individuals do not represent our management. If you are approached, please contact us immediately.
Do you have social gatherings?
We go for a meal at a family restaurant after every session! It's a great place to talk about music and meet people from different industries.

Participation Guidelines & House Rules
To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for everyone, we kindly ask all participants to follow these guidelines:

Avoid Last-Minute Cancellations: Please refrain from cancelling at the last minute, as it makes it difficult to maintain the necessary balance of instruments for our sessions.

Performance Flow: The organizer is responsible for managing the session (including volume balance, theme melodies, and solo rotations). Please defer to the organizer's decisions.

Respectful Interaction: Please refrain from giving unsolicited instructions or musical feedback to other performers during the session.

Networking Etiquette: We encourage you to connect with other musicians, but please do not use our circle to recruit members for other groups without prior consent. If you are planning an event that might be mistaken for an official "Scramble Point" activity, please consult with us first.

Exchanging Contact Information: For first-time participants, we ask that you exchange contact information through the organizer’s office to ensure everyone feels secure.
Prohibited Conduct
We are committed to maintaining a safe and welcoming environment. To prevent any issues, the following actions are strictly prohibited:

Solicitation: Any forms of solicitation, including business networking, sales, or recruitment, are strictly forbidden.

Unsolicited Contact: Please avoid exchanging contact information with others until you have built a sufficient relationship of trust.
